Nathan Scholten

A local veterinarian and hobbyist who recently discovered fly fishing. Nathan has brought value to the fly fishing community through his generosity and craftsmanship of unique leather fly fishing lanyards.

What fly fishing means to Nathan:
Fly fishing is a chance to get out. It is not so much about catching the fish (which is good because I am lousy at it) but just the fact of being able to spend time with family, and friends. Fish catches blend in from one to the next. There will always be that one memorable catch, but the memories and as important the stories that you get to tell are what the real catch of the day is.

Veterinarian & Craftsman:
I have been a local veterinarian for the last 25 years, and I am enjoying semi-retirement.
Currently, I am creating the fly fishing lanyards for AZ Fly Shop. Chris was teaching at a fly fishing lesson and showed me the one that he had purchased. My son Harrison said we could do that. So I developed a custom design after researching the internet. I wanted to create a functional work of art. Each one is unique. While the basic design is the same no two are identical.
I enjoy design challenges. If you want a custom one made, contact Chris at Az Fly Shop, we will put something together for you.

What having AZ Fly Shop in the community means to Nathan:
It means having friends in the neighborhood. Someplace you can stop in on a whim, browse, shoot the bull, and enjoy a cup of coffee or read a book.

Wise Words:
“Be nice to each other, remember, that you are not all that and a bag of chips.” -Nathan Sholten

The message of gratitude from the Owners :
I was able to meet Nathan and his son Harrison during our grand opening. Since meeting them, I’ve had the opportunity to fish with them, and get better acquainted with them. I’d like to acknowledge Nathan for his commitment to his family and his community. He is committed to making the world a better place, and he is truly a gift to our community.
