Ethan Beazley

AZ Fly Shop Photographer

It’s only been a little over a year since we opened AZFly Shop. At the very beginning it was an idea and some loose conversation. As word spread that Phoenix was going to have a fly shop, people started to show up and help. It seemed to spread like a wild fire. Ethan Beazley showed up very early on and offered his professional photography services and helped in any way he could. He brought in some amazing pieces of work and said “these are for the shop”. Our “rod room” was built around those prints that he donated to the cause. Ethan learned how to run the registers and during busy events at the shop Ethan can be spotted taking photographs or working the register. Ethan has been an amazing contribution to our shop and the community and we are proud to spotlight him as the community member of the month.

What does fly fishing mean to you? What about fly fishing offers you most satisfaction?

For me, Fly Fishing has always been my favorite way to mentally unpack. I think anyone reading this can relate to the calming powers of the sport. I love the places fly fishing tends to take me. It’s really great having a small and positive community here in Arizona. I’ve always enjoyed talking about fishing and the outdoors when I stop by to hang out at the shop.

What does having AZ Fly Shop in the community mean to you? What do you like about AZ Fly Shop?

The shop is incredibly well stocked and ran. I really enjoy the positive atmosphere in the shop. My experience while traveling and doing photography is that you don’t get that in every shop. The greater Pheonix area fly fishing  community is really supportive and AZ Fly Shop has become a place for us to congregate. It’s been so cool seeing it grow and thrive since day one.

Tell us your most memorable fly fishing story

Nothing really beats the time a friend of mine and I went to Oak Creek in the snow and caught a ton of big Gila Trout on huge articulated streamers.

Is there any advice or quotes that you feel everyone should hear?

Do not, under any circumstances, let Baretrap row your boat.

Is there anything else you would like to add or share with the community?

Im always out fishing and shooting photos. (you may recognize my work around the shop. those are my hands holding those fish in the rod room) I hope to meet more of you guys at the shop or on the water. Let’s go fish.
