Fishing the streams and creeks is always some of the best fishing that comes to mind, but the amazing lakes of northern AZ will not disappoint! White Mountain Apache Reservation lakes have been fishing well this summer along with the Rim country having great success with streamers on sink tips. If Big fish are your game, throw some larger items like Rio’s “Meat Sweats” or a Sparkle Minnow from Montana Fly Company. Most fish are being taken on midges, chironomids and leeches both balanced and the go-to simi seals if you are looking for numbers. There have been reports of dry fly action at some lakes so be sure to include foam hoppers, ants as well as cicadas in your fly box!

Bring Your 9’ or 10’ rods in the 5 or 6 weight range, think of heavier weight rods to turn over larger flys. Roll casting from shore utilizing a float tube/pontoon is going to also be great paired with some fins. Also be aware the earlier the better to fight the wind!
