Starting on the North Island at “Poronui Lodge” and traveling to the South Island at “Owen River Lodge”, this trip is a full encompassing experience of New Zealand and the beauty it has to offer!

What to Expect:

We recommend arriving in Auckland on October 22, 2026. The trip hosts (Jill & Chris Rich) will be arriving on 10/22 and will send recommendations for hotel accommodations, guided tours and any other activities they plan to do during their 2-night stay in Auckland.
TRIP BEGINS: October 24, 2026
Day 1 (10/24): Transport 3-3.5hr drive from Auckland to Poronui Lodge
Day 2-5 (10/25-28): Fishing & Activities at Poronui Lodge
Day 6 (10/29): Transport from Poronui Lodge to Owen River Lodge (Flight)
Day 7-10 (10/30-11/2): Fishing & Activities at Owen River Lodge
Day 11 (11/3): Transport from South Island to Auckland to head home or continue travel!
TRIP ENDS: November 3, 2026

Mostly targeting large Brown Trout & some opportunity for Rainbow Trout
Fly from Lake Taupo (TUO) to Nelson (NSN) and 1hr transfer to Owen River Lodge
Guests stay in one of six, purpose-built guest cottage suites, which have been designed with both the angler and non-angler in mind. They are in the garden, a short stroll from the main lodge building. These cottages feature king beds, reverse cycle air conditioning, fine original artwork, and handsome wood detailing. Meals at the lodge are eclectic and superb, borrowing from Maori, Polynesian, Asian, and European traditions in a unique fusion referred to as “Pacifica Cuisine.”
