Where To Fish

RIM COUNTRY LAKES

Fly fishing on the Rim country lakes is great right now and heating up. The bite is on, but windy days have been an issue. Watch the wind forecast and use extreme caution when fishing from a boat, pontoon or float tube.

Willow Springs Reservoir –  Shoreline anglers are finding success, but try to get out on any watercraft and cover some water to get into numbers of rainbow trout and smallmouth bass. Indicator nymphing and stripping streamers are both working right now. Flies to use include pink beadhead princess nymphs size 10-12, balanced leeches in olive, black, and claret size 10-14, and clouser minnows in smaller sizes.

Woods Canyon Lake – Rainbows and tiger trout are being caught using the same techniques as at Willow Springs. Woods Canyon however offers more surface dry fly fishing. Dry flies to try include foam terrestrials with lots of rubber legs in smaller sizes.  Red, purple and gold super chernobyls sz 10-14. Pink, black and purple cloud 9s sz 10-14. Small gray caddis and callibaetis patterns sz 10-16 are also a good choice.
