As we enter into September, the days are getting shorter and cooler temperatures are right around the corner. The lakes in the high country, are beginning to cool down, most of the lakes below 8000ft are still warm however the lakes over 8000ft are beginning to produce fish. The high country streams are still producing trout very well. Water is still great for wet-wading. If you’re practicing catch and release for trout it would be a good idea to check the water temp. once the water is over 65 degrees it is hard for the trout to survive after being caught.
FLIES: Pheasant tail, hares ears, caddis pattern nymphs are all producing well in the lakes and streams. Dry flies like hoppers, elk hair caddis and ants are producing in the streams VERY well
Above 8,000ft: Big Lake, Holly and Reservation Lake are your best bets for the White Mountains
