Community Member Spotlight

Andy Price

This is my favorite time of the month. Time to write about the monthly community member spotlight. Our community is full of amazing people, making great contributions to the world.
This month’s community member spotlight has literally devoted his life to impacting our most precious resource, our children. He is the current Executive CEO at Grand Canyon Council for Boy Scouts of America. His contribution to our youth could never be properly measured, and it’s been a gigantic contribution to the world. Andy Price is a gift to the world, and the fly fishing community is blessed to have him as our April Community Member Spotlight.

What does fly fishing mean to you? What about fly fishing offers you most satisfaction?

Fly fishing represents Outdoor Adventure at its finest. And often, outdoor adventure combined with fellowship with great humans. Whether we catch fish or not, we get to venture into the outdoors and experience nature and reset our soul. So often, we venture out with friends and get to share these life experiences over a cold beverage late in the day. What’s better than outdoor adventure, good friends, and a cold beverage?

What does having AZ Fly Shop in the community mean to you? What do you like about AZ Fly Shop?

The best thing to me about AZ Fly Shop is how it has brought together the fly fishing community around Arizona. We are blessed with fishing opportunities throughout the state and the fly shop has become a place where the various clubs, governmental organizations, and youth organizations can come together to share resources for the betterment of our fisheries, community, and the future. The Fly Shop has been amazing at bringing together, and supporting, the various stakeholder groups in our fishing community.

Tell us your most memorable fly fishing story

Last October my wife and I fished the San Juan during the annular solar eclipse. We didn’t realize it was occurring that day, and it was a really neat experience to be at exactly the best possible spot to view the eclipse – from the middle of the San Juan River! We saw a really cool natural event while we were enjoying the day fishing. And, I caught my biggest trout yet – a 28″ rainbow! One of our best days ever together.

Is there any advice you would share with the fly fishing community?

Plug in. Enjoy your fishing adventure, but do more. Find a way to give back. Volunteer to help someone become a better caster, participate in a stream cleanup, or volunteer with a Scout Troop or Venturing Crew – help turn a kid or young adult onto fly fishing and pay it forward.
