Phoenix Urban Waters
Phoenix may have one of the best urban fisheries in the country. Although Arizona Game and Fish has delayed bass stocking until later in the year to reduce losses to cormorants, the Valley’s ponds, parks, and canals have remained productive through the summer heat and monsoon rains.
Anglers are finding bass along with grass and common carp. Focus on shaded banks, moving water, deeper stretches, and the cooler early-morning and evening hours.
Go-to urban flies:
- Size 6–8 beaded streamers
- Baby Fat Minnows
- Clouser Minnows
- Poppers
- Larger bass streamers when targeting bigger fish
